Golden Opportunities for Independence provides highly trained service dogs to those living with mental and physical handicaps in an effort to improve quality of life and provide greater independence. With the help of volunteer puppy raisers and committed staff and community partners, GOFI’s service dogs are carefully matched and trained to meet the unique needs of each human recipient.
Established in 2013, Golden Opportunities for Independence is dedicated to providing those in need with the opportunity to live their lives to the fullest extent. GOFI trains service dogs for placement as well as providing continuous support and mentorship to recipients after they have received their service dog. GOFI’s success is made possible through the teamwork of staff, volunteers and generous donors.
Successful training of an assistance dog for GOFI involves commitment and passionate dedication from many different people. GOFI puppy raisers include adults and families from all walks of life – those who have previous experience training assistance dogs, those who have trained their own pets, and others who simply believe in the intelligence and healing powers of our canine friends.
Though we hope to expand our program in the future, Golden Opportunities for Independence currently places puppies only with raisers residing within twenty miles of Walpole, MA.
